We followed the birds south to the Gulf Coast in early November 2010, first to Corpus Christi and then to South Padre Island. This page shows images from our week based on South Padre Island. We visited Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge virtually daily. The new Birding Center on South Padre Island is excellent. It was like a winter trip to Florida with all the egrets, spoonbills and osprey.

We particularly enjoyed the Harris's hawks, which we think of as Arizona birds, and the mix of brown and American white pelicans. A highlight of our visits to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge was the armadillo encounters, which are included in video on our Flickr site. Shorebirds were increasingly numerous as the week progressed and the migrating birds arrived.
